Patient Survey Highlights

Thank you to all that completed our recent survey. We are very appreciative of the responses and are working on the various suggestions to better our services.

Following are some of the highlights of the feedback that we received:

Along with the responses to the survey questions that we asked you, we received several questions that we felt would be helpful to address in the newsletter:

What happened to the Refer-A-Friend Bonus in Ontario?

A few years ago, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario updated their rules and regulations that govern many aspects of how physicians can conduct their business.  One of the regulations stipulated that physicians cannot offer incentives to entice patients to join their practice, and the Refer-A-Friend bonus falls into this category.

The good news is that this regulation only covers Ontario, so the Refer-A-Friend Bonus is still available to patients at our clinics in Alberta and BC.

Why don’t you offer a Facebook page for group support?
There are 2 reasons for this:

  1. In their rules for advertising, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario prohibits the use of testimonials by physicians.  Facebook and other social media sites allow the public to post comments and content, which is considered to be a form of testimonial, so therefore, physicians cannot use these sites as a means of communication.  As well, because these sites have a global reach, we cannot use them for any of our locations outside of Ontario either.
  2. The most important reason that we don’t have a group page is that patients should not rely on other patients or members of the public for medical and dietary advice, as this information could be erroneous and potentially harmful.  Our nurses and doctors provide the primary source of information and ongoing support for our patients to use while following the program.  Remember, if you feel that you need more regular support, you can visit the clinic as often as you wish, or you can call the clinic with your questions any time during regular business hours.

What’s in the injections?
The injections are combinations of B vitamins, mostly B6 and B12.  These injections supply your tissues’ daily requirements for these vitamins.  This is necessary because you are on a diet and your intake of these vitamins from food sources is reduced.  Also, these vitamins are used as catalysts in the chemical processes when your tissues break down fat stores (triglycerides) to produce energy.

Why do the nurses leave the exam room to fill the injections?
As good practice to prevent the spread of infection, Ontario Public Health requires that syringes are to be prepared for administration in a dedicated medication room that is separate from the patient treatment rooms.  We realize that this procedure does add a few extra minutes to your clinic visit, but we are required to follow these procedures, and we thank you for your continued patience.

Recipe of the Month

October 1st is World Vegetarian Day, established by the North American Vegetarian Society to promote and raise awareness of the vegetarian lifestyle. Many people who have unique dietary restrictions such as vegetarianism, religious observances of Kashrut or Halal food laws, or intolerance to gluten or lactose often experience difficulty finding a weight loss program compatible with their restrictions or laws.

The Bernstein Diet is suitable for people with these dietary restrictions*. The diet consists of regular grocery store-bought foods, which allows patients to prepare their meals according to their own laws or restrictions. There is a wide variety of food to choose from in all four groups: vegetables, fruits, protein, and bread substitutes.

The Bernstein Diet caters to people with various dietary needs. There are a variety of proteins to choose from, such as lentils and beans, tofu, and also processed protein brands like M&M, Yves, Zoglo’s, etc.

Visit https://worldvegetarianday.navs-online.org/ for more information about World Vegetarian Day.

You can use the three-dot menu when viewing any food list item or recipe to add it to your Favourites list. You can go to the Food List or Recipes areas of the menu to see your list of favourites. If you navigate further into the food list categories before opening your favourites list, your list is filtered to show items belonging to the category you opened it from.

Food/Recipe Filtering
If you have any personal dietary restrictions or allergies, you can specify these in your Settings. When browsing the food list and recipes, you will only be shown items which are compatible with your restrictions.
