The Times are Changing!

Over the years, we have heard many requests from patients to extend the hours of our clinics. We now have 22 clinics that are open later for your convenience, and we are working toward adding more. If you’ve had difficulty joining or continuing the program because of schedule conflicts, check this list to see if there is now a late clinic in your area. The New Maintenance Program Protocols

We know that all of our patients start the Dr. Bernstein weight loss program with the best of intentions to follow it as strictly as possible, but we also recognize that our patients may face a variety of life events that can periodically interrupt their routines or conflict with their efforts to adhere to the program properly.

So we have made it easier for you make adjustments to your goal so that you can deal with the issue of the moment without letting go of the program and the weight loss progress that you have made.

We have removed and relaxed some of the protocols around the Maintenance Program so that patients can shift from the strict program to maintenance at any time, and for as long as needed. You will still enjoy the benefit of being able to visit with the nurse once per week to review your progress and health, and learn what you should and should not be eating at various stages of Maintenance. And of course, we will always be here, ready to encourage and support you when you are ready to get back on the weight loss program, all the way to your goal!

Recipe of the Month: Veal Marengo


  • 7 oz or 200g Veal, Lean – cubed
  • 1 ¼ serving of Canned Tomatoes – with liquid
  • 3 ½ oz or 100 g Mushrooms – fresh or canned, sliced
  • 2 ½ oz or 70 g Onions – sliced
  • 1 tsp or 5 ml Vegeta Food Seasoning & Soup Mix
  • ½ tsp or 2.5 ml Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp or 5 ml Pepper
  • 1 cup or 235 ml Water – boiling
  • PAM Original Cooking Spray

  1. Spray pan with PAM. Brown veal and onion over low heat.
  2. Add remaining ingredients, stirring in VEGETA last.
  3. Cover and simmer over low heat until tender for about 1 hour.
  4. Remove cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until liquid is reduced to a thick sauce.

Dieting and Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT)

A study conducted by the Diabetes Prevention Program Research Group found that a modest reduction in body weight can affect a patient’s risk of developing diabetes.

In patients with Impaired Glucose Tolerance or diabetes, a modest 5% to 10% body weight loss is achievable and can result in clinically meaningful outcomes with respect to the prevention of type 2 diabetes and improvements in glycemic control and cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes.

The available evidence strongly contends that once successfully shed, the weight loss must be maintained to ensure that the clinical benefits endure.

Tips for Using the Bernstein Diet Mobile App

The Bernstein Diet Mobile App is here to help track your weight loss journey. Patients can access Recipes, Food List, Weight Tracker & BMI Calculator!

1) Login Quicker
After you log in with your username and password, open the menu and go to the Settings area. Here, you can set the app to automatically log you in when you open the app, without re-typing your password each time. You can also choose how often you want to check for food list and recipe updates. Checking less frequently will make logging in much faster.

2) Share Your Thoughts
You can click on the five stars when viewing any individual recipe to give it a rating. The recipe will show the average rating given by yourself and all other patients.

3) Personalize Your Weight Tracker:
If you would like to add a photo or a message to a date on your weight tracker, you can tap on the dot in the graph for that day to edit it. You can also include a photo or message when adding a new day to your tracker.

4) Weights are now uploaded directly from the clinic:
Now you don’t have to enter your weights manually any longer. The weights will be automatically uploaded to your profile directly from the clinic after your visit.
